Steve Cooper's Reds Gathered At The Top Of The City's Council House To Show Their Prize To The Sea Of Fans Below
Thousands Flocked To Old Market Square Yesterday As Nottingham Forest Unveil Their Trophy To The Masses
Thousands of Nottingham Forest fans gathered in Old Market Square yesterday, as Steve Cooper and his Reds unveiled their trophy to signify the end of their 23 year long drought from the Premier League after being relegated to the Champions League in May of 1999.
Fans and the team sung their anthem, the 1981 Depeche Mode single I Just Can't Get Enough, which echoed through the city for miles.
Nottingham City Council and Nottinghamshire County Council have both announced projected pre-tax boosts to the local economy worth £7.6 Billion, along with £3.5 Billion being made in tax revenue.
When I asked Steve Cooper yesterday how Forest being promoted would change the city, he told me that: “Our win has already and will continue to rejuvenate Nottingham and the entire county, the money made from new revenue streams will help turn it into a metropolis akin to London”.
When Steve Cooper took over Forest after the sacking of Colin Calderwood last September, Forest were on the threat of relegation to League 1 along with rivals Derby County.
But the former Swansea coach set up shop, got the team and fans back on the same side, and before Christmas dominated the Champions League.
Automatic promotion however was lost, after a 1-0 loss to Bournemouth.
Forest were able to lick their wounds and worked their way through the play offs, until their triumphant victory over Huddersfield Town at Wembley on Sunday.
Fans said that the extra crawl made the win even more satisfying and well earned.
