Barcelona icon Víctor Valdés is set to make his return to coaching, having been appointed as the new head coach of Spanish fourth-tier side Real Ávila CF.

The club has officially confirmed Valdés’ appointment, announcing that he will lead the first team until the end of the current season and continue through the following campaign.

Official Club Statement:

"Real Ávila CF announces that Víctor Valdés will be the new head coach of the first team until the conclusion of this season and throughout the next.

"Following his retirement from professional football, Valdés has been involved in coaching at various levels, including roles with FC Barcelona’s youth teams, the Moratalaz Football School, and UE Horta.

"The club extends its best wishes to him in this new chapter, confident that his experience and dedication will be crucial in achieving the objectives set before us.

"Regarding the coaching staff, Diego, Jonás, Joel, Alberto Garrosa, and Víctor Garrosa will remain in their respective roles, ensuring the continuity and cohesion of the technical team.

"We would also like to inform you that Rafa López was given the opportunity to remain with the club, but has voluntarily chosen to step aside. Real Ávila CF wishes to express its heartfelt gratitude for his professionalism and the services rendered during his tenure."

Valdés retired from playing in 2018, concluding a distinguished career in which he made 535 appearances for FC Barcelona, winning six La Liga titles and three UEFA Champions League trophies.

He briefly returned to the club as a youth coach, although his stint ended controversially in 2019. While he has since been linked with possible returns to Barcelona, Valdés is now set to embark on a fresh challenge with Real Ávila.
