A new musical dance show by the independent dance company Rambert has been unveiled, and is set to be an adaptation of the hit TV series Peaky Blinders.
The musical show titled Peaky Blinders: The Redemption of Thomas Shelby, will be the first to feature black and white actors playing the same characters simultaneously, with Guillaume Queau and Prince Lyons sharing the lead roll of Birmingham gangster turned Labour MP, Thomas Shelby.
On a similar note, the roll of undercover agent turned lover Grace will be alternated between Naya Lovell and Seren Williams, going a different route to that of how Rambert will adapt Thomas Shelby.
Rambert have stated: "We wanted to portray Thomas Shelby's split personality by having two actors who look nothing alike playing him, and with Grace too.
Grace as we know dies in the show and comes back to haunt Thomas Shelby in visions and dreams.
It was a creative decision on our part to cast both black and white actors to play the roll of English gangster Thomas Shelby, who is white and played by Irish actor Cillian Murphy".
The idea was approved by series creator Steven Knight, who is confident that it can be translated to the stage without any production hiccups.
Peaky Blinders: The Redemption of Thomas Shelby, is currently in pre-production.
Knight also took the time to announce that a Peaky Blinders movie is in the works, with the cast of the show returning to play their respective characters once more for the movie, which will continue where the most recent series of Peaky Blinders ended, where Thomas Shelby rides off on his horse after confronting his doctor and finds his pikey travel wagon torched on a hill side.
The musical dance show is considered by Knight to be Non-Cannon to the main series at large, rather a companion piece like the Star Wars Expanded Universe and Legends material scrapped by Disney following their acquisition of the brand and Lucasfilm in 2012.
