Air Peace suspends all flights nationwide due to NiMet strike and lack of critical weather reports.

Air Peace has announced the suspension of all its flight operations across Nigeria due to the ongoing industrial action by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet).

In a statement released on Wednesday, the airline explained that the suspension is also a result of the unavailability of QNH (barometric pressure) reports, which are crucial for safe aircraft landings. The airline emphasized that without these weather reports, the safety of its operations could not be guaranteed.

“Due to the ongoing NiMet strike and the unavailability of QNH (hazardous weather) reports required for safe landings, Air Peace has suspended all flight operations nationwide until the strike is over,” the airline stated. “Your safety is our top priority. We appreciate your understanding and will share updates as the situation unfolds.”

Earlier, the airline had warned that the NiMet strike could lead to widespread flight delays and cancellations across its network. It also stated that it was closely monitoring the situation and working with relevant stakeholders to minimize the impact on passengers’ travel plans.

NiMet employees began a nationwide indefinite strike today over unresolved welfare issues. Among the workers' grievances are the agency’s refusal to negotiate or implement agreed financial allowances, along with outstanding entitlements such as wage awards, peculiar allowances, and payments dating back to the 2019 minimum wage review.

The staff also accused the agency’s management of withholding critical documents, neglecting requests to include omitted employees in past disbursements, and prioritizing executive retreats over essential training programs for staff.
