Bayern Munich will host Inter Milan in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday. Both teams are in strong form, with Bayern unbeaten in their last 22 home Champions League games and Inter still in contention for the Serie A title. Coaches Vincent Kompany and Simone Inzaghi discuss the importance of character and team performance in this highly anticipated encounter.

Bayern Munich will welcome Inter Milan for the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday.

Vincent Kompany’s side prepared for the high-stakes clash with a 3-1 victory over Augsburg, maintaining their six-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga.

Bayern will also take confidence from their impressive record, having gone unbeaten in their last 22 home games in the Champions League.

Inter Milan, on the other hand, squandered a two-goal lead in a 2-2 draw at Parma over the weekend, but they remain firmly in the hunt for the Serie A title and are still in the Coppa d'Italia.

The last meeting between the two sides took place in the group stages of the 2022-23 Champions League. Bayern won both home and away matches 2-0, though Inter made it to the final, only to lose 1-0 to Manchester City, who had previously eliminated Bayern in the quarter-finals.

“This game is about moments. It can be a standard situation for us, whatever, but in your moments you just have to be there. We can talk about tactical football, what they do well, but there’s also a certain character, heart, and emotion that goes with it. We have that in our last round because it’s now game 13 and 14 against Inter Milan. So we’ve already played a few games in the Champions League and showed in the last round against Leverkusen that we can do that. The important thing for me tomorrow is to be mentally ready and to show personality,” said Bayern coach Vincent Kompany.

“Tomorrow we play against a very, very strong team who are favourites for the title, alongside Real Madrid. But we’ll approach the game as we’ve always done. We know what we’ve done so far to get here and we’re going to give our best, try our best, in a game between two great teams who deserve to be here. And despite all the injuries on both sides, for Bayern and us, we will try to give our best here with a cohesive team performance,” said Inter coach Simone Inzaghi ahead of the highly anticipated clash.
