Paris Saint-Germain were crowned Ligue 1 champions for the 13th time on Saturday following a narrow 1-0 victory at home to Angers, as they now turn their focus to an impending UEFA Champions League quarter-final clash with Aston Villa.

PSG required only a draw in front of their home supporters to seal the title, having begun the day 21 points clear of their closest challengers, AS Monaco, with seven matches remaining. A second-half strike from Désiré Doué proved decisive, securing the win and confirming Luis Enrique’s side as champions with six games still to play.

This triumph marks PSG’s fourth consecutive Ligue 1 title and their 11th in the past 13 seasons, underscoring their domestic dominance since the club's takeover by Qatar Sports Investments in 2011.

“Our ambition is to win everything,” captain Marquinhos told beIN Sports. The Brazilian centre-back, who joined the club in 2013, has now won 10 league titles but will be suspended for the first leg of the quarter-final against Villa.

“It’s a wonderful feeling,” he added. “It’s the reward for our efforts throughout the campaign, for our consistency – the team truly deserves it.”

PSG now sit three titles ahead of Saint-Étienne, who last won the league in 1981. Marseille have claimed the title nine times, while Nantes and Monaco have each lifted the trophy on eight occasions.

Such has been the Parisian club’s dominance that title celebrations at the Parc des Princes were measured. Nonetheless, manager Luis Enrique was hoisted into the air by members of his coaching team, and the players completed a lap of honour in front of a jubilant home crowd.

The official trophy presentation will take place later, with PSG maintaining full concentration on their upcoming European tie against Aston Villa. The first leg will be held at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday, with the return fixture scheduled for 15 April in England.

Unbeaten Ambitions

Beyond the title, PSG now have their sights set on a historic unbeaten league season. They remain undefeated after 28 matches, having recorded 23 wins and five draws, and could become the first team to complete a Ligue 1 campaign without a single defeat.

The closest any French side has come to such a feat remains Nantes, who went unbeaten in their first 32 games before suffering a solitary loss en route to the title in the 1994/95 season. That campaign comprised 38 fixtures, whereas this season features only 34, following the reduction of Ligue 1 from 20 to 18 clubs.

PSG’s next league fixture is not until 19 April, when they host Le Havre. Their previously scheduled trip to Nantes has been postponed until 22 April to allow adequate rest between the two legs of their Champions League tie.

Top scorer Ousmane Dembélé, who has netted 32 goals in all competitions this season, was rested at kick-off against Angers, having scored twice in PSG’s 4-2 midweek victory over Dunkerque in the Coupe de France semi-finals. Bradley Barcola, the club’s second-top scorer with 18 goals, was also left out of the starting line-up.

The performance against Angers was far from vintage, with the visitors having a strong penalty shout early on when Esteban Lepaul was muscled off the ball by Willian Pacho – a challenge deemed fair by the referee.

Doué eventually broke the deadlock 10 minutes into the second half, converting from a Khvicha Kvaratskhelia cross to register his 11th goal of the season across all competitions, having joined PSG from Rennes last summer.

That goal proved sufficient for PSG to secure the win and the title, preserving Luis Enrique’s perfect record in domestic competitions since his appointment ahead of last season.

Elsewhere in Ligue 1

In other Saturday fixtures, Brest scored in stoppage time to defeat Monaco 2-1, a result that could see Marseille leapfrog the principality club into second place with a win against Toulouse on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Lyon came from behind to claim a 2-1 victory over Lille in a crucial encounter in the race for Champions League qualification.
