Rap icon and devoted Hoops supporter Snoop Dogg has expressed his desire to help launch the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow — should the opening ceremony be hosted at Celtic Park.

The Drop It Like It’s Hot star, who famously carried the Olympic torch during the final leg of its journey to the Stade de France in Paris last year, is keen to replicate the experience by bearing the King’s Baton next summer. The opening ceremony is expected to return to Parkhead, where it was also held in 2014.

Snoop, 53, said: “I know people will say I’m a little biased, but honestly, any opening ceremony should be at Celtic Park.

“I might be a Celtic fan, but I think most people — whether they support Celtic or not — recognise it as one of the greatest stadiums in the world. Hosting the opening ceremony there would be perfect, and maybe I’d even get the chance to perform.

“For real, I’d love to carry the Commonwealth baton. I don’t need an excuse to visit Glasgow — but to open the Games at Celtic Park would be a dream come true.”

Speaking to the Sunday Mail, the 17-time Grammy-nominated artist reiterated that opening the Games at Celtic Park would be the ultimate honour for him.

The 11-day event, scheduled for July and August, is set to take place across various Scottish venues, including Scotstoun Stadium, the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, the SEC Centre, and the OVO Hydro.

Last year, Snoop revealed his interest in investing in Celtic FC, inspired by Hollywood friend Ryan Reynolds, who bought Welsh club Wrexham. During his 2023 visit to Glasgow, Snoop wore the Celtic strip and was welcomed by a bagpiper playing Still D.R.E. upon his arrival for his performance at the OVO Hydro.

Spending more time in Scotland would also give him the opportunity to reconnect with his friend and fellow Celtic fan, Sir Rod Stewart, whom he hailed as his favourite Scottish artist.

Snoop added: “I’ve got so much respect for Rod. Like me, Vegas is his town.

“He hasn’t let age slow him down and he’s still selling out shows in Vegas.

“And of course, he’s a Celtic fan too — so I’ve got to go with Rod.”
