The Premier League has officially announced that the full fixture list for the 2025/26 season will be released at 9:00 am BST on Wednesday, 18 June 2025. This will reveal the dates for all 380 matches of the campaign.

The confirmation follows a previous announcement outlining the season’s key dates. Manchester United and Manchester City already know that their opening fixtures will take place over the weekend of 16 August 2025, while the season will conclude on Sunday, 24 May 2026.

Fixture Schedule and Key Considerations

The 2025/26 Premier League season will commence 83 days after the conclusion of the 2024/25 campaign, which ends on Sunday, 25 May 2025. This scheduling is designed to provide the maximum possible rest period for players.

However, Manchester City’s season will extend beyond the Premier League’s final match round due to their participation in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. Their campaign could run until 13 July 2025 if they progress to the final of the tournament.

The league has confirmed that the season’s end date of 24 May 2026 has been set to conclude all domestic matches before the FIFA 2026 World Cup squad selection period, which begins on Monday, 25 May 2026.

However, clubs involved in the later stages of European competitions may receive exemptions. Should Manchester City or Manchester United reach a UEFA final, they could be allowed to continue playing until 30 May 2026, subject to FIFA’s approval. This coincides with the Champions League final, while the Europa Conference League final is scheduled for 27 May 2026.

Midweek Fixtures and Festive Period Adjustments

The Premier League has also confirmed its fixture structure for the season. Of the 38 match rounds, 33 will take place on weekends, while five rounds are scheduled for midweek.

The league has reaffirmed its commitment to reducing fixture congestion over the festive period. Measures include ensuring that no two match rounds occur within 60 hours of each other, following concerns raised by clubs regarding player welfare during the Christmas and New Year schedule.

Additionally, the Premier League has ruled out scheduling matches on Christmas Eve (24 December 2025), following previous controversy over festive fixture congestion.

Official Premier League Statement

In its official statement, the Premier League confirmed:

“The Premier League 2025/26 season dates have been confirmed, with the opening match round starting on Saturday, 16 August 2025.

The final match round will be played on Sunday, 24 May 2026, when all matches will kick off simultaneously, as usual. The 2025/26 season will consist of 33 weekends and five midweek match rounds.

The schedule continues to allow more rest time for players over the festive match-round period, with no two rounds taking place within 60 hours of each other. This is in keeping with commitments made to clubs to address the congested Christmas and New Year schedule.

The start date of 16 August allows for the maximum player rest time available – 83 clear days – from the end of the 2024/25 season.

The season end date of 24 May 2026 ensures the Premier League season finishes ahead of the FIFA 2026 World Cup call-up period. There will be no fixtures on 24 December 2025.”
