Nine Dead, 11 Injured in Katsina Road Crash Due to Speeding

Nine people died and 11 were injured in a crash on Malumfashi-Kafur Road, Katsina. The accident, caused by speeding, involved a Hummer Bus traveling from Lagos to Katsina. Three injured victims were referred to an orthopedic hospital, while seven were discharged.

Nine persons lost their lives, while 11 others sustained injuries in a fatal road crash that occurred along the Malumfashi-Kafur Road in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State on Sunday.

The Katsina State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Aliyu Ma’aji, who confirmed the incident, told our correspondent that the passengers were traveling in a Hummer Bus conveying 20 people. The vehicle was coming from Lagos and heading to Katsina when the crash occurred.

According to him, 11 persons who sustained injuries were immediately taken to the hospital for medical attention.

Ma’aji noted that preliminary investigations revealed that the accident was a lone crash caused by excessive speeding, which resulted in the driver losing control of the vehicle.

Providing an update later in the day, the Public Relations Officer of the FRSC Katsina State Command, Shamsudeen Babajo, disclosed that out of the 11 persons taken to the hospital, three were referred to an orthopedic clinic in the area for further medical care, while the remaining seven had been treated and discharged.

"Out of the 11 people who sustained injuries and were taken to the General Hospital Malumfashi, three were referred to the General Rimi Orthopaedic Hospital in Katsina for specialized treatment, while the remaining seven have been discharged," Babajo stated.
