The 2025 AMVCA nominees have been announced, highlighting the best of African film, TV, and digital content. With categories spanning diverse talents, voting is open until May 4, and winners will be revealed on May 10.

The nominees for the 2025 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) have been announced, celebrating the finest in African film, television, and digital content. The organizers expressed their enthusiasm, emphasizing the impressive growth and creativity in the continent's storytelling landscape.

"Seeing this year’s nominees is truly inspiring," said Dr. Busola Tejumola, Executive Head of Content and Channels, in a statement released on Sunday night. "Each entry captures a unique aspect of Africa’s vibrant storytellers. I believe these selections reflect both the depth and innovation shaping our industry, and they point to an exciting future for African content."

The nominations cover productions released between January 1 and December 31, 2024, and feature a wide range of talent and compelling stories. Competing for Best Movie and Best Director are the historical drama "Lisabi: The Uprising" and the visually captivating "Skeleton Coast," set against the stunning backdrop of the Namib Desert.

The acting categories promise tough competition, with notable Nigerian actors like Gideon Okeke, Stan Nze, Femi Adebayo, and Adedimeji Lateef vying for Best Lead Actor. In the Best Lead Actress category, Chioma Chukwuka, Bimbo Ademoye, and Uche Montana are among the recognized talents. The selection process is overseen by Femi Odugbemi, a respected Nigerian filmmaker, to ensure a fair and comprehensive evaluation of all submissions.

The AMVCA recognizes excellence across 27 categories, blending audience-voted recognitions with juried accolades. Public voting is currently open, allowing fans to support their favorite nominees until May 4, 2025. Winners will be announced during a live broadcast on May 10, 2025.

The Best Movie category features a diverse lineup, including "Lisabi: The Uprising," "Skeleton Coast," "Suspicion," "Inkabi," "House Of Ga'a," "Freedom Way," "Christmas In Lagos," and "Farmer's Bride." The Best Indigenous Language (Southern Africa) category also presents strong contenders like "Walvis Tale," "The Vow," "Mwizukanji," "Man Of Gold," and "Lukas."

As anticipation builds, the AMVCA continues to celebrate the creativity and cultural richness of African storytelling, spotlighting both established and emerging talents across the continent.
