Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen are reportedly considering a move for Manchester United's Jadon Sancho this summer. The 24-year-old winger has spent the 2024/25 season on loan at Chelsea but has struggled to maintain consistent form.

After an encouraging start at Stamford Bridge, Sancho’s performances have declined in recent months, with his last direct goal contribution coming on 4 January. His dip in form has raised concerns within Chelsea’s camp, although head coach Enzo Maresca has continued to select him regularly.

While Chelsea have an obligation to buy Sancho for £25 million, it was revealed on Sunday that the club can opt out of the agreement if they choose not to sign him permanently. In that scenario, Chelsea would pay United £5 million in compensation, and Sancho—who has not played for the Red Devils since August—would return to Old Trafford.

However, according to GIVEMESPORT, Chelsea are more likely to honour the purchase obligation before selling him in the same transfer window. The report adds that Dortmund and Leverkusen are among the clubs interested in securing Sancho’s services, given his successful past experience in the Bundesliga.

Sancho’s History in Germany

Sancho originally joined Borussia Dortmund from Manchester City in 2017 and excelled at Signal Iduna Park, recording 50 goals and 62 assists in 137 appearances. He later returned to Dortmund on loan last season, two-and-a-half years after his £73 million transfer to United.

If Chelsea decide not to proceed with their obligation to buy, a return to United appears unlikely. New manager Rúben Amorim is reportedly keen to recoup as much of the club’s initial investment as possible, though Sancho’s declining form has significantly reduced his market value.

Maresca’s Continued Support

Despite his struggles in early 2025, Chelsea boss Maresca has publicly backed Sancho. Speaking in January, he praised the England international for his consistency and professionalism.

“For me, he’s doing very well,” Maresca stated. “I was already familiar with Jadon from his previous clubs, and I knew what to expect. However, in terms of consistency, he has exceeded my expectations.”

“Apart from a brief spell where he was unwell, he has been performing well for an extended period. Maintaining a high level for a long time is challenging for any player, but Jadon has managed it. He just needs to continue in that direction.”

Sancho’s future remains uncertain, but with Chelsea re-evaluating their stance and interest from Bundesliga clubs, his next move could be crucial in reviving his career.
