Abia Police Commissioner Danladi Isa disbanded the SWAT Unit and Special Squad, replacing them with the Scorpion Squad led by SP Ibe Daniel. The move aims to enhance professionalism, lawfulness, and effective crime-fighting in the state. Misconduct will face strict disciplinary measures.

Police Commissioner Danladi Isa has ordered the disbandment of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit and the Special Squad of the Abia State Police Command. This decision was made public through a statement released on Thursday by the command’s spokesperson, Maureen Chinaka.

In place of the disbanded units, a new tactical and professional team called the Scorpion Squad has been established. According to the statement, SP Ibe Daniel has been appointed as the commander of the Scorpion Squad, with DSP Eze Augustine serving as the deputy commander.

The police command explained that the restructuring is part of ongoing efforts to uphold the rule of law and enhance professionalism within the police force in Abia State. The move is also aimed at better equipping the operational arms of the police to effectively tackle crime and criminality across the state.

During his address to the newly formed Scorpion Squad, Commissioner Isa emphasized the need for professionalism, strategic thinking, and strict adherence to all rules of engagement while carrying out their duties. He instructed that all operations must be intelligence-driven and that officers should strictly comply with the command’s dress code to ensure easy identification and accountability.

Commissioner Isa also issued a stern warning against any form of misconduct that could tarnish the image of the police force, noting that such behavior would attract appropriate disciplinary measures. He further charged the Scorpion Squad to take decisive and strategic action to reduce violent crime and minimize criminal threats throughout Abia State.

The establishment of the Scorpion Squad marks a significant step in the command's efforts to strengthen its operational capacity and reinforce public trust in the police force.
