Kenyan MSS officer Bénédict Kabiru was killed in Haiti during a mission to recover a police vehicle. His death marks the second Kenyan casualty, fueling opposition to the deployment, though President Ruto remains committed to the mission.
Kenyan Officer Killed in Haiti as MSS Faces Another Setback

Another Setback for the Kenyan-led Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) in Haiti
The Kenyan-led Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS), deployed to Haiti to combat gang violence, has suffered another setback following the death of a Kenyan police officer.
According to the MSS, the officer was killed on Tuesday in an attack carried out by suspected gang members. He was part of a team sent to recover a Haitian police vehicle that had become stuck in a ditch, which is believed to have been deliberately dug by gangs.
During the recovery operation, the MSS forces came under attack. Initially reported as missing, the MSS later confirmed that the officer, identified as Bénédict Kabiru, had died in the incident.
Haiti’s Presidential Transitional Council has acknowledged Kabiru’s sacrifice, referring to it as the “ultimate sacrifice” in recognition of his service. His death marks the second loss of a Kenyan officer in Haiti since the MSS deployment began in June of last year.
Back in Kenya, there has been widespread opposition to the deployment of security forces to Haiti, with increasing calls for their return due to the dangers they face. Despite this, President William Ruto has reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to the mission, emphasizing the country’s dedication to stabilizing Haiti.
