Barcelona midfielder Marc Casado has sustained a partial knee ligament tear during last weekend’s victory over Atlético Madrid and is expected to be sidelined for two months, the La Liga leaders confirmed on Tuesday.

The 21-year-old has featured in 37 matches across all competitions this season under Hansi Flick. As a result of the injury, Casado has withdrawn from Spain’s Nations League squad.

He was forced off in the 67th minute of Barcelona’s thrilling 4-2 victory against Atlético.

"It has been confirmed that he has suffered a partial tear of the lateral collateral ligament in his right knee," Barcelona stated in an official announcement.

"He will undergo conservative treatment, which is expected to keep him out of action for approximately two months."

Barcelona currently lead La Liga on goal difference ahead of Real Madrid, with Atlético Madrid trailing by four points. The Catalan giants also have a game in hand as they continue their pursuit of a possible treble.

Their Copa del Rey semi-final against Atlético Madrid is finely poised at 4-4 ahead of the second leg, while they are set to face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League quarter-finals next month.
