A 79-year-old British man, Edgar Charles Frederick, has died after being hit by a vehicle associated with Kenyan President William Ruto’s motorcade in Nairobi.

The incident took place on Thursday along a major road in the capital. According to police reports, the driver of the vehicle, which was part of a support convoy accompanying the presidential motorcade, failed to stop after the accident. However, authorities later arrested the driver, who was subsequently released on bail. Officials have confirmed that an investigation is ongoing, and the driver is expected to appear in court.

Frederick was in Kenya to visit family members residing in the country. His next-of-kin have been informed about the incident, and a post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place.

The UK High Commission has acknowledged the reports and stated that it is actively seeking more details regarding the incident. Meanwhile, social media footage from the scene showed a man lying injured on the road near a busy shopping area. Later, his body was seen covered with a traditional Maasai shawl.

Officials have clarified that the vehicle involved in the accident belonged to the regional administration’s support team for the presidential detail. President Ruto was in the vicinity at the time, attending public engagements.
