Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has shown his support for Liverpool's Dominik Szoboszlai, despite the Reds extending their lead at the top of the Premier League table.

Arne Slot's side cruised past Newcastle United, with goals from Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister securing a crucial victory that moved Liverpool 13 points clear. Their advantage was further strengthened as Arsenal faltered against Nottingham Forest.

Szoboszlai continued his impressive goal-scoring form, having also netted in Liverpool’s victory over City on Sunday—a result that significantly boosted the Reds’ title hopes after Arsenal dropped points against West Ham United the previous day.

The 24-year-old midfielder has received widespread praise for his standout performances under Slot and was named Player of the Match following his display against Newcastle.

After the match, Szoboszlai shared a celebratory post on Instagram, featuring a picture of himself after scoring, accompanied by skull and wand emojis. Haaland responded with a simple yet enthusiastic comment: "Yeaaah."

Despite their rivalry on the pitch, the two players maintain a strong friendship off it, having first played together at RB Salzburg in the Austrian Bundesliga.

“We got really close because we were young. Great player, great guy,” Szoboszlai said in 2023. “He has a house, then two houses between us, then it's my house.

“When I came to sign [for Liverpool], it wasn’t official yet. I sent him a picture of a Liverpool shirt, and he was like, ‘Oh, what’s happening?’ I said, ‘Yeah, we’re going to see each other,’ and he said, ‘Congratulations, the Premier League is crazy.’”

Shortly after joining Liverpool, Szoboszlai revealed that Haaland had even given him advice on where to live.

“We’ve talked, so much so that Erling Haaland has even advised me on finding real estate. It could very well be that we become neighbours,” he said.

“I learned from him that several players live halfway between Manchester and Liverpool in a quiet area where privacy is maintained. On Monday, I’ll see what he was talking about—I’m very curious.

“And, of course, when Liverpool and Manchester City face off, our friendship will be set aside. It will surely be a fantastic experience to play against each other.”
