Keyshawn Davis secured his first world title in emphatic fashion, knocking out Denys Berinchyk in the fourth round to claim the WBO Lightweight Championship.

The victory was even more significant given the pre-fight controversy. Davis was left furious after receiving a banana, watermelon, and a note in his room, accusing Berinchyk of racism. The Ukrainian fighter denied any involvement, leading to a heated weigh-in where he shoved Davis in frustration. However, Davis remained composed and delivered a dominant performance inside the ring.

Fight Breakdown

The opening round was a cautious affair, with Berinchyk utilising lateral movement to stay out of range. Davis had predicted a first-round stoppage, but Berinchyk’s evasive tactics ensured that did not happen, much to the crowd’s frustration as boos rang out.

Davis increased the pressure in the second round, repeatedly attempting to land his uppercut. Berinchyk responded by clinching at every opportunity to disrupt his rhythm. However, Davis found the breakthrough in the third round.

The Knockout

A thunderous left hook to the body sent Berinchyk crashing to the canvas. Though he managed to beat the count, it was clear the end was near. Davis capitalised in the fourth round, flooring Berinchyk once again with another vicious left hook to the body. With blood pouring from his nose, Berinchyk failed to rise before the referee’s count, sealing Davis’ victory.

Following his triumph, Davis set his sights on high-profile opponents, calling out Gervonta Davis and Vasiliy Lomachenko.

“Man, it was an amazing feeling. The only thing that gave me slight trouble was how he kept jumping in and out. He was a little faster than I expected, but as the rounds went on, I got more comfortable. There are two champions at 135 pounds I’d love to fight. If they have the guts to step in the ring with ‘The Businessman,’ tell them to send me a contract—or I’ll send them one,” Davis declared.

Promoter Bob Arum heaped praise on the young champion, saying:

“Keyshawn Davis is a sensational young fighter. What a performance. You saw the future of boxing tonight here in New York City.”
