Several people were injured on Thursday when a car drove into a group of pedestrians in Munich, the capital of Bavaria, according to reports from German media and police.
A police statement confirmed that multiple individuals sustained injuries in the incident.
"The driver of the vehicle was secured on the spot; he currently poses no further danger," police stated.
According to broadcaster BR24, the group of pedestrians was reportedly participating in a token strike organized by the trade union Verdi.
Eyewitnesses cited by BR24 claimed that two men were in the car, and one of them was shot by police before being carried away. Authorities urged the public to refrain from speculation regarding the incident.
The incident took place just a day before high-ranking politicians from around the world are set to gather in Munich for the prestigious Munich Security Conference.
