Six men were injured, and a fire had to be extinguished following an explosion at a Rheinmetall ammunition factory in Spain. The cause of the explosion and fire has not yet been determined.

Six individuals were injured following an explosion at an ammunition factory in Spain on Thursday, according to AFP. Emergency services reported that one of the victims was in a serious condition. Firefighters were called to the scene to extinguish the fire caused by the explosion.

The factory, located in Javali Viejo in the southeastern Murcia region, belongs to Rheinmetall Expal Munitions, which is a subsidiary of the German arms manufacturer Rheinmetall. The injured men, aged between 30 and 52, sustained head trauma, burns, and smoke inhalation. Five of them were transported to hospitals in Murcia, while a sixth was treated at the site.

The facility produces artillery ammunition, mortar rounds, medium-caliber rounds, and rocket propulsion systems. Rheinmetall has not yet commented on the cause of the explosion.

The blast also ignited a forest fire in the industrial area, which spread across 2,000 square meters before being brought under control. Rheinmetall operates seven sites in Spain and the United States and supplies weapons to more than 60 countries. Ukraine is currently one of its largest customers.
