Princess Beatrice has given birth to her second child, Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi, on January 22. Born prematurely at 4lb 5oz, Athena is healthy. The royal family expressed their joy, and Beatrice, 36, and her family are doing well. The baby is the granddaughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah, Duchess of York, and is 11th in line to the throne. Beatrice has previously spoken about her dyslexia and works with various charities, including the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Princess Beatrice has welcomed her second child, a daughter named Athena, Buckingham Palace has confirmed.

Athena arrived several weeks ahead of her expected due date and weighed 4lb 5oz. Despite her premature birth, she is reported to be in good health and doing well.

The baby, Beatrice and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi's second child, was born on 22 January at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London. The news of the safe arrival of the baby has delighted The King, The Queen, and other members of the Royal Family, according to the Palace.

Beatrice had originally been due to give birth in early Spring. However, in December, she was advised by medical professionals to avoid long-distance travel. As a result, she and her family spent Christmas with the Royal Family at Sandringham instead of joining her husband's family abroad as they had planned.

An official photograph of the newborn Athena has been released, showing her wrapped in a blanket with her hand covering her face, presumably to protect her privacy. In a post on social media, Edoardo shared his joy, saying: "She is tiny and absolutely perfect," and that the family was "completely besotted with her."

Athena is the granddaughter of Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, and Sarah, the Duchess of York. She now occupies the 11th position in the line of succession to the throne. The Duchess of York expressed her happiness on social media, saying, "She is already so adored and I'm incredibly blessed to be a granny once again. So proud of Edo, Beatrice, and the rest of my little 5-a-side team."

Buckingham Palace also released the full name of the baby as Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi. She was born last Wednesday at 12.57 pm.

Both Beatrice, who is 36, and her newborn daughter are said to be doing well, and the family is enjoying time together, including with Athena's older siblings, Wolfie—Edoardo's son from a previous relationship—and Sienna.

The parents expressed their gratitude to the hospital staff for the "wonderful care" they received, noting that this is the same hospital where their first daughter, Sienna, was born in 2021.

The name Athena is of historical significance, as in ancient Greek mythology, she was the goddess of war, wisdom, and crafts.

In addition to her royal duties, Princess Beatrice is involved with various charitable organizations, including the Teenage Cancer Trust, and co-founded Big Change, an initiative that helps young people develop life skills outside the traditional academic framework. She has also been vocal about her personal experience with dyslexia, which she has described as making exams "terrifying" during an interview with the BBC in 2016.
