Manchester United face FCSB in their final Europa League group-stage match on Thursday night.
Manchester United Leave Marcus Rashford Out of Squad for FCSB Clash
Marcus Rashford has NOT been included in the Manchester United squad for their Europa League fixture against FCSB on Thursday night.
The 27-year-old has not featured in any of United’s last 10 matches across all competitions and was named on the bench only once during that period, due to a squad shortage in their home defeat to Newcastle. Rashford was initially omitted from the squad for the Manchester derby against City for ‘selection’ reasons and later stated that he was ‘ready for a new challenge’ in the days following the match.
Despite training with the United squad at Carrington on Wednesday morning, Rashford was not named in the travelling party for the club’s trip to Romania later in the day.
Following United’s weekend victory over Fulham, head coach Rúben Amorim reiterated that he would rather play 63-year-old goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital than any player who did not give their best effort in training. When asked specifically about Rashford’s continued exclusion from matchday squads, Amorim explained:
"It’s the same, it’s always the same reason. The reason is training, the way I believe footballers should approach training and life—it’s about every day, every detail.
"So, if things don’t change, I will not change. The same applies to every player. If you give your maximum and do the right things, we can utilise every player. You could see today that we were lacking a bit of pace on the bench to change the game, to move some pieces around. But I prefer it that way. I would rather put Vital on before selecting a player who does not give their best every day. I will not compromise on that."
Luke Shaw also took part in United’s training session on Wednesday morning but has not been included in the squad to face FCSB as he continues his recovery from injury. The 29-year-old has made just three substitute appearances this season and will not be rushed back into action after nearly two months on the sidelines.
