Erling Haaland has reportedly signed a new contract with Manchester City.
Erling Haaland Signs Nine-Year Manchester City Contract with Transfer Release Clause
Haaland has been a pivotal figure for City since his transfer from Borussia Dortmund in 2022. His previous contract was set to expire in July 2027, but City were eager to secure his future at the club. The two parties have now reached an agreement on a new deal.
The extended contract will keep the Norwegian striker at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2034, by which time he will be 34 years old. City officials have spent the past six months negotiating the monumental deal, which marks a significant commitment to Haaland's role in the club's future.
Departing Director of Football, Txiki Begiristain, was determined to keep the negotiations confidential. He is reportedly delighted to have finalised the agreement before his departure from the club at the end of the season.
The new deal is understood to include a release clause exceeding £250 million, which will become active in 2029. According to The Athletic, while the exact financial details remain undisclosed, it is believed to be one of the most lucrative contracts in the history of sport.
Haaland is reportedly very content with life in Manchester, despite ongoing interest from Real Madrid. The striker recently welcomed his first child with his long-term partner, Isabel Haugseng-Johansen.
Since his arrival at Manchester City, Haaland has achieved remarkable success, including two Premier League titles, the FA Cup, the UEFA Champions League, and the FIFA Club World Cup. He has also scored an extraordinary 111 goals in just 126 appearances for the club.
The new contract ensures that Haaland’s tenure at the club will extend beyond the current manager Pep Guardiola's, although the pair are known to share an excellent relationship.
Despite some recent struggles in form, both for the team and Haaland individually, City are demonstrating their financial strength in the transfer market. The club is currently in advanced talks to sign centre-backs Abdukodir Khusanov from RC Lens and Vitor Reis from Palmeiras. Additionally, they are closely monitoring Eintracht Frankfurt striker Omar Marmoush.
Haaland’s extended contract reaffirms Manchester City’s commitment to building their squad around one of the world’s most prolific forwards.
