Denzel Dumfries emerged as the standout performer in Inter Milan's commanding 2-0 victory over Atalanta, securing their place in the Supercoppa Italiana final. The Dutchman delivered a superb second-half brace to steer the Nerazzurri to success at Al-Awwal Park.
Dumfries Reflects on Inter's Triumph Over Atalanta to Reach Supercoppa Italiana Final
Despite dominating the first half, Inter failed to capitalise on several clear-cut opportunities. Lautaro Martinez endured a frustrating evening, missing numerous chances before and after the interval. However, Dumfries rose to the occasion, delivering two stunning goals in quick succession early in the second half.
The 28-year-old opened the scoring three minutes after the restart with an acrobatic overhead kick that left Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi helpless. He doubled Inter's advantage shortly after, unleashing a powerful first-time strike that sealed the victory.
Speaking to Sport Mediaset via FcInterNews, Dumfries expressed his delight with the team’s performance. "I’m very happy with the win tonight. It was a good performance. We controlled the first half too, and I am happy to help with two goals. It was a great victory tonight," said the Dutch wingback.
Acknowledging the team's progress, he added: "We are playing well, but we must focus on improving with every game. We are on the right path and need to keep going like this."
Inter’s win marked their seventh consecutive triumph over Atalanta, bringing them one step closer to making Supercoppa Italiana history. The reigning champions are now just one match away from becoming the first team to win four consecutive titles in the competition.
However, their path to glory will not be easy, as they prepare to face either Juventus or AC Milan in the final.
