Liverpool FC has come together in grief to honour Diogo Jota, following the tragic death of the Portuguese forward in a car crash alongside his brother, André Silva.

Jota, 28, and his younger brother died in the early hours of Thursday morning in Spain. Since the heartbreaking news broke, emotional tributes have poured in from across the football community, with Liverpool team-mates, former manager Jürgen Klopp, and fans paying their respects.

Striker Darwin Núñez was the first of Jota’s team-mates to publicly express his sorrow. Posting on Instagram, he wrote:

“There are no words to comfort you for so much pain.
I will always remember you with your smile, as a good team-mate on and off the field.
I send all my strength to your family, from where I am sure he will always be with you, especially your wife and three children.
RIP Diogo and André.”

Fellow Liverpool player Stefan Bajčetić also posted a touching message, simply saying:

“You will be remembered, my friend.”

Jürgen Klopp, who managed Jota during his successful spell at Anfield, issued a particularly emotional tribute. The former Liverpool manager shared:

“This is a moment where I struggle.
There must be a bigger purpose—but I can’t see it.
I’m heartbroken to hear about the passing of Diogo and his brother André.
Diogo was not only a fantastic player, but also a great friend, a loving and caring husband and father.
We will miss you so much.
All my prayers, thoughts, and strength go to Rute, the kids, the family, the friends, and everyone who loved them.
Rest in peace – Love, J.”

Outside Anfield, fans have gathered to leave floral tributes, scarves, and heartfelt messages in memory of Jota. Among those paying their respects was Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner, who also laid flowers at the stadium.

The collective outpouring of grief reflects the impact Jota had on and off the pitch—admired not only for his talent and tenacity, but also for his kindness, humility, and devotion to his family.
