Rangers head coach Russell Martin has bolstered his backroom team ahead of the upcoming season by bringing in two experienced additions.

Mike Williamson, former Carlisle United head coach, and ex-Arsenal goalkeeping coach Sal Bibbo have both joined the Ibrox coaching staff.

Williamson, who enjoyed a playing career with clubs including Newcastle United, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Wycombe Wanderers, has previously managed MK Dons and Gateshead. He now takes up the role of first-team coach under Martin.

Bibbo, meanwhile, arrives from Sheffield Wednesday but is best known for his time working with Arsenal under Mikel Arteta. He joins Rangers as the club’s new goalkeeping coach.

Speaking about the appointments, Martin said:

“I am delighted to have Mike and Sal join my team ahead of the new season.
I played with Mike at Wycombe Wanderers, so we go back a long way, and I know the qualities he can bring to this group.
As a player, he operated at the highest level and has developed as an experienced coach having managed himself.

I’m also really pleased to bring Sal into the setup. He has a wealth of experience and a proven track record in developing goalkeepers.
After speaking with him, it was clear that his knowledge and character will be a real asset to both the players and the staff. I’m looking forward to working with them both.”

The changes come following the departure of coach Issame Charai, who left the club last month after a six-month stint in Glasgow. Charai had served as assistant to former manager Philippe Clement and remained part of the coaching team during Barry Ferguson’s interim tenure.
