The semi-final, held in Riyadh, saw Dumfries break the deadlock in the 49th minute with an impressive overhead kick that left Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi helpless.
Inter's second goal came on the counterattack in the 61st minute. Dumfries struck again with a powerful shot that grazed the crossbar before finding the back of the net.
Atalanta thought they had halved the deficit when Ederson found the net after a scramble in the Inter box. However, the goal was disallowed following a VAR review, which confirmed that an Atalanta player had been offside in the build-up.
Under the guidance of head coach Simone Inzaghi, Inter Milan secured the win at Al-Awwal Park and advanced to the final. They will face either Juventus or their fierce rivals AC Milan on 6 January in Riyadh.
The second semi-final between Juventus and AC Milan is scheduled to take place on Friday night at Al-Awwal Park.
