Erling Haaland Scores Brace as Manchester City Defeat West Ham 4-1 in Premier League Clash
Pep Guardiola’s side are navigating a challenging season but managed to achieve back-to-back Premier League wins for the first time since October, moving closer to the top-four chase.
City opened the scoring in the 10th minute when West Ham defender Vladimír Coufal inadvertently turned the ball into his own net.
Shortly before half-time, Norwegian forward Haaland doubled the hosts' lead with a well-placed header at the far post following an accurate cross from Savinho on the left. City entered the break with a comfortable 2-0 advantage.
In the 55th minute, Haaland struck again, calmly chipping the ball over the West Ham goalkeeper after receiving a clever pass from Savinho, making it 3-0.
Phil Foden rounded off City’s scoring in the 71st minute after West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus gifted possession to Kevin De Bruyne. The Belgian midfielder set up Foden in the box, leaving the England international with an easy finish.
West Ham managed a consolation goal through German forward Niclas Füllkrug, who found the net late in the game, but it was too little too late for the visitors.
The emphatic win keeps Manchester City in sixth place in the Premier League table with 34 points from 20 matches. West Ham, meanwhile, remain in 13th with 23 points.
Liverpool Continue to Lead
Liverpool, sitting at the top of the Premier League with 45 points and two games in hand, will face rivals Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday.
Manchester United, enduring a disappointing season, are 14th in the table with just 22 points.
Tottenham Slip After Home Defeat
Earlier on Saturday, Tottenham Hotspur suffered a 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United at home.
Dominic Solanke put Spurs ahead, but Newcastle responded with first-half goals from Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak to secure the comeback victory.
Newcastle now sit in fifth place with 35 points, while Tottenham drop to 12th with 24 points as their inconsistent form continues.
