Starting in 2025, Ghana will allow visa-free entry for all African countries to strengthen ties across the continent, boosting tourism, trade, and travel. Ghana joins Rwanda, the Seychelles, the Gambia, and Benin in this policy.
Ghana Removes Visa Requirements for All African Nationals Starting in 2025
Starting in early 2025, Ghana will allow visa-free entry to citizens of all African countries. This decision follows approval from President Nana Akufo-Addo, who authorized the move in December. The policy aligns with a pledge made by the president during the Africa Prosperity Dialogues. In his own words, the move is intended to foster "stronger ties across Africa."
The new policy is anticipated to enhance tourism, trade, and travel to Ghana, as analysts have previously identified visa restrictions as a significant barrier to growth in these areas. Before this decision, Ghana had already extended visa-free access to nationals of 26 African countries, while offering visas on arrival for citizens from 25 other African nations. Only travelers from two countries in Africa were required to obtain a visa before entering the country.
With this change, Ghana becomes the fifth African country to grant entry to all holders of African passports without the need for a visa. Other countries that have adopted similar policies include Rwanda, the Seychelles, the Gambia, and Benin.
