Two police officers were injured, one seriously, following an explosion on Thursday night outside a police building in Berlin. Authorities in the German capital confirmed that the officers were on a routine security patrol when an unidentified object exploded near the building’s fence.

According to a police statement on the social media platform X, the incident occurred at approximately 8:20 pm (1920 GMT) at the perimeter fence of the police building in the Wittenau district of northern Berlin.

One officer sustained injuries to the face and eyes, while the other officer suffered "sound trauma." Both officers were promptly treated for their injuries.

The cause of the explosion has not yet been disclosed by the police, and they have not provided further details. This explosion follows a recent incident on New Year’s Eve, where 30 German law enforcement officers were injured, including one who was seriously hurt by an illegally manufactured firework.
