A bus crashed on Sunday evening near a ski resort in the Pyrenees mountains in southern France, resulting in the deaths of at least two individuals and injuring 33 others, according to local authorities.

The bus, carrying 47 people, including the driver, crashed near the ski resort of Porte-Puymorens, as reported by the regional administration. Seven of the passengers were reported to be in critical condition.

Initial investigations by local authorities revealed that the bus collided with a cliff, but the exact cause of the crash remains unclear at this time.

Images released by the local firefighter service showed the bus wedged against the side of a cliff, with its right side partially crushed and the windshield apparently shattered.

Over 120 individuals participated in the rescue efforts, including personnel from neighboring Catalonia in Spain and Andorra. Helicopters were also deployed to assist in the operation.

France's Transport Minister, François Durovray, expressed his condolences in a post on X, offering his sympathies to the victims and their families.

The injured individuals were transported to hospitals in Toulouse, Perpignan, and Foix in France, as well as Puigcerda in Catalonia, according to local authorities.

Catalonia's emergency services confirmed on X that the bus had originated from L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, a town near Barcelona, Spain.
