The cause remains unclear, but weather conditions were near freezing with moderate winds. Emergency services responded, and DHL has not commented yet.

A DHL cargo plane crashed into a house early Monday near Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, resulting in at least one fatality. According to Lithuania’s public broadcaster LRT, citing an emergency official, two individuals were hospitalized after the crash, and one later succumbed to their injuries. The aircraft struck a two-story residence located near Vilnius International Airport.

The Lithuanian airport authority confirmed the aircraft was a DHL cargo plane originating from Leipzig, Germany. On the social platform X, the authority announced that emergency services, including a fire truck, were present at the scene.

Flight-tracking data from FlightRadar24, analyzed by The Associated Press, revealed the aircraft veered north of the airport, aligning for landing before crashing approximately 1.5 kilometers (1 mile) from the runway.

Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the crash, which occurred just before 5:30 a.m. local time. Weather conditions at the airport included near-freezing temperatures, overcast skies before sunrise, and winds at around 30 kph (18 mph).

DHL Group, based in Bonn, Germany, has not provided a comment on the incident. The aircraft was operated by Swiftair, a contractor headquartered in Madrid, Spain, but the company could not be immediately reached.

The plane involved was a Boeing 737, which, at 31 years old, is considered an older airframe. While this age is noteworthy, it is not uncommon for cargo aircraft.
