Newcastle United star Alexander Isak and his Swedish team-mates have been forced to return to Stockholm after their international training camp in Marbella was disrupted by further severe weather in Spain.

Sweden had travelled across Europe in preparation for upcoming fixtures against Slovakia and Azerbaijan, but torrential rain in the area has disrupted these plans, with players receiving red weather warnings on their phones overnight.

“I was a bit worried. You’ve seen in other Spanish cities how it’s been, so it wasn’t very pleasant. Hopefully, it won’t get too extreme,” Isak said during a press conference on Wednesday.

Sweden team-mate and Tottenham youngster Lucas Bergvall, speaking to Swedish outlet Fotbollskanalen, added: “It was chaos. Rain chaos. Thunder and everything. We had to stop early.”

Sweden are hoping to leave Spain and return home to resume preparations before hosting Martin Dubravka’s Slovakia on Saturday evening. The Magpies’ goalkeeper is set to earn his 50th cap for his country in the Nations League match.

Isak missed Sweden’s October internationals due to a broken toe but has returned to form with Newcastle, scoring in each of his last four appearances across all competitions. The last time he joined up with his national team, he netted three goals in two games against Azerbaijan and Estonia.

Newcastle team-mate Emil Krafth will not be joining his Swedish colleagues for the double-header after withdrawing with a suspected broken collarbone. The defender missed Sunday’s win at Nottingham Forest and is expected to spend time on the sidelines.
