In an address to his supporters, Republican leader Donald Trump declared that he is “working to stop wars,” emphasizing a commitment to diplomacy over conflict. Speaking to a jubilant crowd, Trump outlined his vision for addressing what he called the urgent challenges facing the country.
Trump Vows to 'Stop Wars' and Address Nation's Urgent Issues in Victory Speech
Republican candidate Donald Trump on Wednesday pledged to "heal" the country after claiming victory over his Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris, in what has been described as one of the most divisive and polarized elections in U.S. history.
“We have a country that needs help, and it needs help very badly. We're going to fix our borders, and we’re going to fix everything about our country,” Trump declared to a crowd of enthusiastic supporters early Wednesday morning at his campaign headquarters in Florida.
Trump's speech followed shortly after Fox News, a right-leaning news network, called the election in his favor, with results nationwide showing him leading decisively over Harris.
“It’s now clear that we’ve achieved the most incredible political thing… look what happened, is this crazy?” Trump added, addressing the crowd.
Speaking from the West Palm Beach Convention Center in Florida, Trump promised Americans, “Every single day, I will be fighting for you,” and vowed to usher in what he described as the “golden age of America.”
Trump was joined by family members, led by his wife, Melania Trump, as well as his running mate, JD Vance, and close friends.
In his speech, Trump also recognized a number of prominent figures in the crowd. Dana White, the CEO of UFC, stood on stage with him, and Trump called golfer Bryson DeChambeau to join him. He also took a moment to acknowledge Elon Musk, the billionaire owner of X, who has become one of his most high-profile supporters.
“We have a new star. A star is born: Elon,” Trump said, praising Musk’s influence.
Trump, who would become the first former president to return to power since Grover Cleveland in 1892, reiterated his commitment to working toward peace. He emphasized that he is "working to stop wars," not start them.
"We defeated ISIS (Daesh) in record time, but we had no wars. They said: 'He will start a war.' I'm not going to start (one), (I’m) working to stop wars. But this is also a massive victory for democracy and for freedom," he added.
In his speech, Trump also reflected on the gravity of the presidency, stating that it is "the most important job" in the world. He expressed confidence in the success of his first term and vowed to build on it.
"Nothing will stop me from keeping my word to you, the people. We will make America safe, strong, prosperous, powerful and free again,” Trump declared.
At 78, Trump would become the oldest person ever elected to the U.S. presidency and the first person convicted of a felony to achieve that office.
His vice presidential nominee, 40-year-old Ohio Sen. JD Vance, would break records as well, becoming the highest-ranking millennial in U.S. government.
Trump also made sure to highlight Republican victories in down-ballot races, specifically in the Senate.
“The number of victories in the Senate was absolutely incredible,” Trump said.
Republicans have so far secured 51 seats, giving them a majority. However, races in Montana, Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Nevada have not yet been called, with the possibility of further Republican gains.
Trump expressed confidence that Republicans would maintain control of the House of Representatives, offering praise for House Speaker Mike Johnson’s leadership.
