Harry Kane scored twice and provided an assist as Bayern Munich moved three points clear at the top of the German Bundesliga with a 3-0 home victory over Union Berlin on Saturday.

The England captain opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 15th minute after Union’s Benedict Hollerbach fouled Michael Olise just outside the box.

Kane turned provider just before half-time, laying the ball into Kingsley Coman's path, with the French forward firing past Union goalkeeper Frederik Ronnow.

Kane added another goal in the 51st minute, pouncing on a loose ball just ahead of teammate Jamal Musiala to complete his brace.

Despite suffering two consecutive Champions League defeats against Aston Villa and Barcelona, Bayern have now scored 16 goals without reply in their past four matches against German opposition.

"We haven't started the Champions League well, so there is pressure on us in every match now," Kane remarked.

"I believe if we maintain the confidence we've shown in our recent games, we can pose problems for any team."

"There’s still a long way to go, but we have the right mentality and attitude," Kane told Sky Sports.

"If we keep performing like this, everything will be fine — we're in good shape."

Union, who had needed a win to avoid relegation on the final matchday last season, currently sit sixth. Their captain Christopher Trimmel stated to Sky Sports, "We can accept this — Bayern were the favourites and possess incredible quality."

Borussia Dortmund secured a 2-1 home win over RB Leipzig, relieving the pressure on under-fire coach Nuri Sahin.

Dortmund entered the match with four losses from their last five games, including a German Cup elimination by Wolfsburg — their earliest exit in 15 years.

The hosts squandered several clear-cut opportunities before Benjamin Sesko gave Leipzig the lead in the 27th minute, striking off the crossbar.

However, Dortmund equalised three minutes later, with Maximilian Beier tapping in for his first goal for the club since his arrival in the summer.

With just over half an hour remaining, Beier delivered a cross to Serhou Guirassy, who headed Dortmund in front, marking his fifth goal in six league matches.

"The style and manner of our play were excellent today. That’s the standard we expect of ourselves, even if we don’t always achieve it," Dortmund captain Emre Can told Sky Sports.

The victory propelled Dortmund to fifth place, while Leipzig now trail league leaders Bayern by three points after suffering their first league defeat of the season.

Kane's brace takes him ahead of his main rival in this season’s goalscoring race, Omar Marmoush, who scored once and assisted twice in Eintracht Frankfurt's 7-2 rout of hapless Bochum.

Hugo Ekitike netted a brace, while Marmoush, Ansgar Knauff, Nathaniel Brown, Mahmoud Dahoud, and Can Uzun all contributed to the scoring in the comprehensive victory.

Marmoush now has 10 goals to Kane’s 11 this season, but the Egyptian boasts six assists — the best in the league — one more than the England captain’s five.

Frankfurt have leapfrogged reigning champions Bayer Leverkusen into third place, sitting six points behind leaders Bayern.

Bochum managed to score through Dani de Wit and Philipp Hofmann in each half but were thoroughly outclassed.

Bochum now sit at the bottom of the table with just one point from nine matches, following victories for both promoted sides, St Pauli and Holstein Kiel, on Saturday.

Kiel secured their first win in the top division with a 1-0 victory at home against Heidenheim, thanks to a goal from Patrick Erras, moving three points clear of Bochum.

Goals from Oladapo Afolayan and Andreas Albers guided St Pauli to a 2-0 win at Hoffenheim, drawing them level on points with their opponents at eight, just above the direct relegation zone.

In other matches, Wolfsburg drew 1-1 at home with Augsburg.
