In recent weeks, Barcelona have been concentrating on renewing contracts for key first-team players. The likes of Fermin Lopez, Gavi, and Pedri have all been in discussions with Deco and the rest of the club’s sporting department, and this has also applied to Gerard Martin.

Over the summer, Martin was promoted to Hansi Flick’s first team, where he has served as a backup to Alejandro Balde. He has made 10 appearances across all competitions, with three of those being starts (against Rayo Vallecano, Villarreal, and Osasuna).

Barcelona are satisfied with Martin’s development, which is why they have been working to secure a new contract. According to MD, the 22-year-old has now signed an extension until 2028.

As part of the deal, Barcelona have inserted a €100m release clause into Martin’s new contract, which will act as a deterrent to any clubs considering making a move for him. An official announcement of the agreement is expected shortly.
