The authorities believe that the shooting is connected to gang activity, leading to the initiation of investigations into both murder and attempted murder.

A drive-by shooting in South Africa has resulted in the deaths of five individuals, prompting an active manhunt, according to police reports. The incident occurred on Wednesday night in Atlantis, a town located in the coastal Western Cape province. In addition to the fatalities, five others were injured due to gunshot wounds.

The victims, whose ages ranged from 18 to 30 years, were reportedly returning home from the beach when they were attacked. Police spokesperson Novela Potelwa indicated that unknown gunmen opened fire on the three vehicles the victims were traveling in.

Authorities believe the shooting is linked to gang violence, and investigations into murder and attempted murder have been initiated. Potelwa confirmed that no arrests have been made so far in connection with this incident, which is suspected to involve gang-related activities.

This shooting follows a tragic mass shooting nearly a month ago, in which 18 people were killed in a remote town in the neighboring Eastern Cape province, with the motive for that incident still unclear. South Africa continues to grapple with one of the highest murder rates on the continent.
