Heart of Midlothian Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Liam Fox as assistant first team coach with immediate effect.

A former graduate of the Hearts Youth Academy during his playing career, Liam held various roles within the Hearts backroom staff at different stages of his coaching journey between 2015 and 2020, before returning to Tynecastle as head coach of the B team in June 2023.

The Wee Jambos had an outstanding season under Fox’s leadership, finishing second in the 2023/24 Lowland League and netting an impressive 92 goals.

Fox was subsequently appointed interim head coach of the first team in September, where he guided the men in maroon to a 2-1 victory over Dinamo Minsk in Azerbaijan, kickstarting their UEFA Conference League campaign.

Liam will now take up his new position within the first team coaching staff, working alongside new head coach Neil Critchley and his assistant Mike Garrity, with his role confirmed until the summer of 2027.

Speaking to the Official Hearts Website, Critchley said:

“I’m delighted that Liam has agreed to join the first team coaching staff. In the short time I’ve been at the club, his experience and knowledge, not just of the players but of the football club as a whole, has been invaluable.

“Liam has a great deal to offer as a coach, and I very much look forward to continuing to work with him.”

Fox added: “Firstly, I’d like to thank Neil, Mike, and the club for this opportunity. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with them this week, and as a Hearts supporter myself, I’m incredibly grateful to be entrusted with such a role.

“It’s been a challenging start to the season for the club, but during my time in interim charge, the players gave me everything they had. I’m confident it will be the same for Neil and Mike as we prepare for the match against St Mirren on Saturday.”

Congratulations, Liam!
