Giorgi Mamardashvili has issued a warning to Alisson, stating he is prepared to compete for first-team football at Liverpool next season, once he completes his move to Anfield in the summer.

Liverpool made the surprising decision to sign Mamardashvili during the summer in a £25 million deal, which saw the 24-year-old return to Valencia for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.

As it stands, Mamardashvili is set to join Liverpool next summer, although his prospects of playing regularly currently seem slim, as he will be second choice behind Alisson, widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

Nevertheless, Mamardashvili has dismissed suggestions that he could head out on loan again if Alisson remains at the club.

“I was drawn to Liverpool's project when the club's representatives met with me to sign me,” he told Georgia's First Channel. “I will fight for the starting goalkeeper position, even if the current first-choice goalkeeper stays with the team.”

Liverpool’s current understudy, Caoimhin Kelleher, has openly admitted his desire to leave the club after becoming frustrated with his lack of playing time behind Alisson. Mamardashvili’s impending arrival is likely to pave the way for Kelleher’s departure next summer.

Alisson has been heavily linked with a move away from Liverpool, with clubs from Saudi Arabia known to be interested in signing him. However, there have been no concrete indications that the 32-year-old will leave the club.
