Chelsea are facing another FA sanction, with a £50,000 fine expected for the yellow cards their players received during Sunday’s ill-disciplined draw against Nottingham Forest.

As repeat offenders, this penalty is double the £25,000 fine imposed on the Blues for receiving six or more cautions in last month’s match against Bournemouth. Additionally, Marc Cucurella and Wesley Fofana are both suspended for Chelsea’s next fixture against Liverpool, after becoming the first Premier League players this season to accumulate five yellow cards.

Nicolas Jackson may avoid retrospective punishment for what appeared to be a shove to the face of Forest’s Morato during a chaotic melee, after VAR ruled that it did not constitute violent conduct.

Both clubs, however, could face FA charges for failing to control their players during the incident, which was triggered when Neco Williams pushed Cucurella into Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca, causing him to fall.

Chelsea at least managed to finish the match with a full team, unlike Nottingham Forest, who saw James Ward-Prowse sent off for two cynical bookings.

Despite Chelsea holding the Premier League’s worst disciplinary record, Maresca defended his team’s fighting spirit, stating: “I like the way the team is fighting. I like the way they are coming together in these situations. I don’t see any problems with it.”

Nuno Espírito Santo added: “It is very hard for players to control their emotions, and difficult for us as managers. We need referees to understand that.”
