Roma strolled to a 3-0 victory over Udinese on Sunday, securing their first win of the Serie A season, while supporters expressed their outrage over the dismissal of coach and local hero Daniele De Rossi.

Goals from Artem Dovbyk, Paulo Dybala, and Tommaso Baldanzi provided Roma with a comfortable three points against Udinese, who had surprisingly led the league before this weekend but now drop to third, one point behind Torino.

Now under the management of Ivan Juric, Roma climbed to ninth place with six points following a confident performance in front of a hostile crowd at the Stadio Olimpico, which was more focused on protesting De Rossi’s shock sacking on Wednesday.

"The players were deeply upset about Daniele’s departure; they were very open about it, and I respected that," said Juric after the match. "We’ve put in a lot of hard work over the past few days, and it was crucial to perform as well as we did today."

Fans shouted abuse at the team from the stands, and the entire Curva Sud section of the Olimpico, where the hardcore supporters are usually found, remained empty for the first 30 minutes of the match.

In the vacant section, a banner was unfurled accusing the club’s American owners, the billionaire Friedkin family, of disrespecting "our values and our legends."

By the time fans began flooding into the Curva Sud, Roma had already taken the lead through Dovbyk’s goal. However, this did not prevent loud chants of De Rossi’s name from echoing around the stadium.

Midfielders Lorenzo Pellegrini and Bryan Cristante faced particularly harsh treatment due to rumours circulating in Rome that they had played a part in De Rossi’s dismissal.

Pellegrini, who was also born and raised in Rome, was greeted with loud boos when he was substituted in the 69th minute. By then, Roma were two goals up thanks to Dybala’s penalty in the 49th minute, and moments later, Baldanzi added a third, slotting the ball past Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye.

However, the match itself took a backseat to the ongoing protests, which are expected to continue unless Juric’s side can maintain the level of performance that earned Roma the three points on Sunday.

The uproar over De Rossi’s dismissal has been so intense that CEO Lina Souloukou, who resigned on Saturday morning, has been placed under police protection following online threats made against her and her family.

A banner hung outside Roma’s Trigoria training ground labelled the Greek-born Souloukou, who had previously served as CEO of Olympiakos, as "evil."

"I feel sorry for Lina Souloukou; it’s unfair when these situations start to affect family members," Juric added.

Later on, Inter Milan will aim for their seventh consecutive derby win over AC Milan, as the two Italian football giants prepare to face off at the San Siro in vastly different form.

Inter can move top of the table on goal difference with a win over Milan, who have only managed five points from their first four domestic matches and were soundly beaten by Liverpool in midweek Champions League action.

Earlier in the day, Albert Gudmundsson netted a brace of penalties on his Fiorentina debut, helping his new team to their first victory of the season, a 2-1 win against Lazio.
