A woman is facing charges of murder and assault after allegedly driving an SUV into a crowd, resulting in one death and injuries to several others.

According to the AP, a woman is currently facing charges of murder and assault following an incident in downtown Minneapolis where she allegedly drove an SUV into a crowd, resulting in the death of a teenager and injuries to at least five other individuals.

On Tuesday, the Hennepin County Attorney's Office announced that 22-year-old Latalia Anjolie Margalli of Minneapolis has been charged with second-degree murder and five counts of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon. Court records do not indicate that Margalli has an attorney, and there is no listed phone number for her. She is currently being held on a $1.5 million bond.

The criminal complaint details that the incident occurred early Saturday morning when two groups were engaged in a confrontation. According to the complaint, Margalli drove her SUV into the crowd without braking, hitting 16-year-old De’Miaya Broome and several others. De’Miaya succumbed to her injuries at a hospital.

Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty described the incident as "a devastating crime," noting that Margalli’s actions have created an "enormous void" for De’Miaya’s family.

The complaint further reveals that Margalli and her companions had previously been involved in a "verbal altercation" with De’Miaya and her friends. Margalli’s SUV was located shortly after the incident, aided by a witness who followed the vehicle.

In addition to De’Miaya’s death, the injuries sustained by others included broken legs and a head injury.
