Thierry Henry has come under scrutiny for his behaviour during Christian Pulisic’s post-match interview following AC Milan’s 3-1 defeat to Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League. The Frenchman appeared disinterested and refrained from engaging as the American winger spoke to CBS Sports after the high-profile match.

Pulisic had given Milan an early lead in the third minute with a well-executed goal, capitalising on his blistering pace and the space provided in Liverpool’s defence. His low shot past Alisson Becker gave the Rossoneri a dream start in Europe’s top competition, but Milan’s advantage was short-lived.

Liverpool responded with dominant spells of possession before two set-piece goals turned the tide in their favour. Ibrahima Konaté and Virgil van Dijk both towered over the Milan defence to head past an injured Mike Maignan. Tireless midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai then sealed the victory, ensuring a perfect end to the night for his manager’s birthday celebrations.

Pulisic’s Awkward Interview

Pulisic’s interview after the disappointing result took a rather awkward turn, with the former Chelsea forward visibly uncomfortable as Micah Richards introduced him as ‘Captain America.’ Jamie Carragher swiftly followed up with the comment: “They [AC Milan] got beat.” When asked for his thoughts on the match, Pulisic remarked:

“It was a good start to the game, getting the early goal, but it’s extremely disappointing to concede the way we did in the first half from set pieces. They made it tough for us all game, so obviously, I’m disappointed.”

As the interview progressed, Richards, Carragher, and presenter Kate Abdo posed further questions, with Richards urging Henry to participate. However, the former Arsenal and Barcelona legend simply shook his head, declining to engage with Pulisic. This resulted in an awkward silence, prompting Abdo to quickly steer the conversation in a different direction. Henry’s conduct left many fans puzzled and frustrated. One supporter shared the moment on social media, captioning the video: "Just flat weird behaviour from Thierry Henry during this Pulisic interview. Strange and awkward."

Pulisic on Mauricio Pochettino

The discussion also touched upon the recent appointment of Mauricio Pochettino, former Chelsea and Tottenham manager, as the head coach of the USA men's national team. Pochettino’s hiring is seen as a significant move for the American side, with Henry previously being considered for the role before the Argentine’s appointment.

Pulisic revealed he has not yet had any interaction with the 52-year-old: “I haven’t seen him since he took the job. I’m hopeful he can bring about positive changes, and I wish him success.” When Carragher asked if Pochettino’s hiring was a major development for the US national team, Pulisic responded:

“It’s great for us. To have someone with his experience is a big step. I believe we have the talent, and now we’ve got a coach who can take us to the next level.”
