Arsenal have announced that new signing Raheem Sterling will wear the No.30 shirt.

The 29-year-old England winger joined on loan from Chelsea on transfer deadline day after being sidelined by the Gunners’ London rivals.

Sterling will now aim to strengthen Arsenal’s Premier League title ambitions, having watched the weekend’s draw against Brighton from the stands.

Standard Sport reported that Sterling joined his new team-mates for training on Monday, with two weeks remaining until a potential debut against Tottenham. Having not been selected for international duty, he will spend time under Mikel Arteta’s guidance to acclimatise to his new team’s playing style.

Arsenal were unable to assign Sterling his preferred No.7 shirt, which he wore at both Manchester City and Chelsea, as that number is currently held by Bukayo Saka.

However, the No.30 shirt had recently been vacated by Matt Turner, and the former Liverpool forward joins the list of its previous holders, including Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Ryo Miyaichi, and Yossi Benayoun.

Sterling had other options available, such as the No.10, No.14, and No.21 shirts left by Emile Smith Rowe, Eddie Nketiah, and Fabio Vieira after their recent transfers. The No.31 shirt, which he wore at Anfield, was also an option.

Arsenal officially confirmed Sterling’s squad number on Tuesday, although there had seemingly been an accidental leak when his signing was announced. A link to purchase Sterling’s No.10 jersey appeared briefly on the official club website before being quickly removed.
