The Desert Island Discs presenter, 46, posted a photograph of herself in a hospital bed on Instagram, accompanied by a message providing details about her recent health developments.
“Some personal news to share… I have recently been diagnosed with cancer. Fortunately, it was detected early during a screening test, and I am expected to make a full recovery.
“I am presently in hospital and wanted to express my gratitude: Firstly to the medical teams who have provided exceptional care and support with remarkable skill and compassion.
“To my family and friends, whose support has been extraordinary throughout this journey – I am deeply thankful and love you all immensely.
“And, of course, my thanks extend to my colleagues at @itg_ltd, @bbc6music, @bbctheoneshow, and #DesertIslandDiscs for their encouragement and for granting me the necessary time to focus on my recovery.”
Laverne also urged her followers to seek medical advice promptly if they have any symptoms.
“I also wish to emphasise that if you are postponing a test or delaying an appointment, please make it a priority to address it today. Early detection is crucial, as many of us will face cancer at some point, and discovering it as soon as possible can make all the difference.
“While it is usually my role to bring positivity on air, any positive thoughts you can spare would be greatly appreciated at this time. Sending love to those in similar circumstances or those who have overcome similar challenges. xxx”
