General Hospital actor Doug Sheehan dies aged 75 with his wife by his side

Doug Sheehan, best known for his role as Joe Kelly on the daytime soap opera 'General Hospital' in the late 1970s and early 1980s, has sadly passed away at the age of 75.

The actor's death was announced on Monday evening, with a post on the Kane Funeral Home website stating: "After being able to call Big Horn our home, where we dearly loved. Douglas Sheehan, 75 of Big Horn WY., passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday morning, 29 June 2024 with his loving wife at his side."

"Services are pending at this time. Kane Funeral Home has been entrusted with local arrangements."

Sheehan began his screen career with small roles in 'Charlie's Angels' and 'Victor/Victoria' opposite Dame Julie Andrews. He was married to Cate Abert for 43 years until his death.

His other notable roles include playing Brian Harper on the classic sitcom 'Day by Day' opposite Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Ben Gibson in the prime-time drama 'Knots Landing', and Mel Horowitz on the TV series 'Clueless', based on the 1995 film of the same name starring Alicia Silverstone.

He also starred as Edward Spellman, the father of the title character, in 'Sabrina, the Teenage Witch', sharing the screen with Melissa Joan Hart, Caroline Rhea and Beth Broderick in the enchanting sitcom.

His last on-screen appearance was alongside Amanda Bynes and Jennie Garth in an early episode of 'What I Like About You' in 2003.
