A suspected supporter of the Islamic State (IS) was apprehended one week prior to the commencement of the UEFA European Football Championship in Germany, as stated by the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office on Sunday.

Per a representative from the Karlsruhe authority, the individual in question was detained at Cologne/Bonn Airport on Friday.

Authorities allege that the man, holding German-Moroccan-Polish citizenship, transferred funds in September 2023 to an account linked to an offshoot of the IS terror group, the Islamic State Khorasan Province.

Reportedly, the individual also sought employment as a steward and security personnel for ancillary events adjacent to the football stadiums during the Euros, albeit unsuccessfully.

Following his arrest, the suspect was presented before an investigating judge, who ordered his pre-trial detention.

He faces charges of affiliation with a foreign terrorist organization and violations of the Foreign Trade and Payments Act.

It is purported that the individual transferred nearly $1,700 (€1,572) through a cryptocurrency exchange to the terrorist group Islamic State Province of Khorasan (ISPK).
