A recent report claims that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has been consistently late to the set of the film 'Red One' and other projects, leading to production challenges and budgetary issues. Insiders allege that Johnson's tardiness caused disruptions, although a spokesperson for Amazon MGM denied these claims. Despite the controversy, Johnson continues to be busy with upcoming film projects like 'The Smashing Machine' and 'Moana 2', with his absence from WWE due to filming commitments.

A recent report suggests that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson was frequently late to the set of the film 'Red One' and other projects.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has risen to become one of the leading stars in Hollywood, appearing in numerous films such as 'Black Adam' and 'Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw'. He has been attached to Amazon MGM Studios’ 'Red One' film for some time, but the production reportedly faced significant challenges.

According to Umberto Gonzalez of TheWrap, the film, originally slated for release in 2023 but postponed to November 2024, encountered various issues. Gonzalez reports that insiders claimed Johnson often arrived late, causing several problems including an escalating budget. Additionally, the lack of experience among the film's executives was highlighted as a contributing factor.

Insiders cited by Gonzalez alleged that Johnson would arrive “as much as eight hours late” on certain days, prompting the crew to work around his schedule. It was also mentioned that Johnson would occasionally use a bottle for convenience during filming.

The report included a statement from an Amazon MGM spokesperson refuting claims of issues caused by Johnson's lateness.

“Dwayne Johnson and Seven Bucks have been exceptional partners on 'Red One'—a film that audiences of all ages will love this holiday season,” the spokesperson stated. “Our test screenings have been very positive — the reaction from CinemaCon speaks for itself — and we couldn’t have achieved this without Dwayne’s consistent dedication and support. Any suggestion that we reached this point with him showing up seven to eight hours late to set is both absurd and untrue.”

Further Details on The Rock’s Punctuality Issues

According to insiders mentioned by Gonzalez, Johnson has developed a reputation for tardiness, with several instances cited. Gonzalez reported that The Rock was three hours late for his appearance at WWE WrestleMania 40, and he also arrived late for an appearance at WWE World.

A WWE insider attributed Johnson's lateness to prior commitments with WWE, compounded by traffic delays.

Gonzalez also quoted Chris Legentil, WWE's executive vice president for Talent Relations and Head of Communications, who stated, “Dwayne was not only punctual for WrestleMania, he arrived hours early for rehearsals — and was a pleasure to work with throughout the entire event.”

The report reiterated that Johnson’s lateness during the filming of 'Red One' contributed to budget overruns, as described by insiders.

However, sources close to the production and Seven Bucks company stated that Johnson "typically arrived no more than one hour late" to the 'Red One' set. Another source associated with Amazon MGM mentioned that the budget did not significantly deviate from the agreed figure and was subject to normal fluctuations.

The report also cited previous incidents of Johnson’s tardiness on other projects, such as 'Rampage' in 2018 and 'Red Notice' in 2020.

A spokesperson from Netflix praised Johnson as a consummate professional.

What's Next for The Rock?

The Rock's filming commitments have kept him away from WWE. He is scheduled to begin filming for A24’s 'The Smashing Machine' over the next few months, in addition to working on 'Moana 2'.
