The 30-year-old Cranborne man died from his injuries following what police described as a drive-by shooting just after midnight in Melbourne’s southeast.

The Cranborne man died at the scene. He was found with a gunshot wound inside a vehicle at Bride Avenue in Hampton Park at 12.30 a.m. on Saturday.

Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the fatal shooting. An avenue of investigation opened up when police were informed that a Ford Ranger Utility was seen driving away from the suburban street.

“A burnt out vehicle was located at Sweeney Reserve in Berwick just after 2.30 a.m. and police are yet to determine if it is linked to the investigation,” Victoria Police said in a statement.

“Detectives are currently on scene investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
