Police reported that two state lawmakers sustained minor injuries during an event commemorating the 75th anniversary of Germany's constitution.

Police in the southwestern German state of Baden-Württemberg stated that two politicians were assaulted in the city of Stuttgart on Wednesday evening.

The pair, recognised as state lawmakers from the far-right party Alternative for Germany (AfD), sustained minor injuries, as confirmed by the police.

This occurrence marks the most recent assault on politicians in Germany, amidst a series of violent acts targeting several left-leaning and Greens politicians.

The two state parliamentarians were present at an information booth set up by the AfD during an event commemorating the 75th anniversary of the German constitution, known as the Basic Law.

According to the police, individuals suspected to be opponents of the AfD obstructed the information stand and displayed banners. Members of the parliamentary group were verbally and physically assaulted.

The AfD reported that one of the lawmakers sustained a blow to the head and the other to the neck. The object used to inflict the injuries was not immediately identified.

Police stated that two women, aged 19 and 23, were under investigation in connection with the incident, while authorities continued their search for other suspected perpetrators.

The AfD urged the state's interior minister, Thomas Strobl, to take action against left-wing extremism.

Wednesday's assault occurred just a day after Berlin's center-left economy minister, Franziska Giffey, was assaulted at a library in the German capital.

In a separate incident on Tuesday, a 47-year-old Green party politician in the eastern city of Dresden faced threats and was spat upon while she was putting up campaign posters. A DW reporting team was present at the scene and documented the incident.

The individuals involved were purportedly part of a group standing nearby when the politician commenced her activities. This group is also under investigation following allegations of an illegal Nazi slogan being heard from their midst.

Earlier, European Parliament lawmaker Matthias Ecke and a campaign worker from the Green Party were also assaulted in Dresden.
