Türkiye, through AFAD and in coordination with the UN, has delivered 36 tonnes of food aid to displaced people at the Malkohi IDP camp in Adamawa State, Nigeria. The support targets families affected by Boko Haram violence and aims to meet basic food needs, with Nigerian authorities thanking Türkiye for the assistance.

Türkiye, through its Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), has delivered 36 tonnes of food aid to vulnerable populations in Nigeria as part of ongoing humanitarian support efforts coordinated with the United Nations.
The aid was distributed at the Malkohi Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp in Yola, Adamawa State, where many residents have been displaced due to long-standing attacks by the Boko Haram terrorist group. The intervention aims to support families who continue to face difficult living conditions as a result of the insurgency in northeastern Nigeria.
The distribution exercise brought together key officials, including Türkiye’s Ambassador to Abuja, Mehmet Poroy, representatives of Nigeria’s National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in Adamawa, local government authorities, and humanitarian stakeholders. The presence of these officials highlighted the collaborative nature of the relief effort between Turkish and Nigerian authorities.
During the event, Ambassador Poroy reiterated Türkiye’s commitment to humanitarian assistance globally, noting that the country consistently ranks among the leading providers of aid worldwide. He stated that the support is intended to ease the suffering of people living under harsh conditions, even if only to a limited extent, while reaffirming Türkiye’s continued solidarity with Nigeria in addressing humanitarian and security challenges.
On the Nigerian side, NEMA officials expressed gratitude for the assistance, emphasizing that the food supplies provided by AFAD are crucial in meeting the immediate needs of displaced families living in the camp. They noted that such interventions help complement ongoing government and international efforts to support internally displaced persons.
The 36 tonnes of food items include essential supplies aimed at improving daily sustenance and supporting basic household needs for camp residents. The intervention is expected to provide short-term relief to hundreds of families affected by displacement.
In recent years, Türkiye has expanded its humanitarian footprint across Africa, increasing support to countries affected by conflict, disasters, and displacement. The aid delivered through AFAD forms part of its broader humanitarian diplomacy strategy and aligns with United Nations-coordinated relief operations.
Meanwhile, the Boko Haram insurgency in northeastern Nigeria has continued for years, displacing large populations and creating an ongoing humanitarian crisis that requires sustained international and local support.
